When a lineup feels short on speed without sacrificing power, the 99 OVR Signature Alfonso Soriano can solve that problem immediately. In my first stretch of games with him in MLB The Show 26, his value came less from one spectacular attribute and more from how many innings he influenced. He can open a game with a hard-hit ball, pressure the defense after reaching base, and still provide enough pop to punish a misplaced pitch. That makes him a strong target for players planning their MLB 26 stubs around a flexible Diamond Dynasty lineup, especially when the roster needs one card to cover several jobs.

Start With His Bat, Not His Position

Soriano should usually hit near the top of the order, but that does not mean treating him like a contact-only leadoff option. His power changes the way opponents can pitch during the first plate appearance. A fastball over the heart of the zone can leave the yard, while a mistake on the outer half can still produce a firm gap shot. The First-Pitch Hitter and Dead Red quirks support an aggressive approach, yet they should guide pitch selection rather than force a swing every time.

A common mistake is attacking the opening pitch regardless of location. Once an opponent notices that habit, a low slider or changeup can create an easy out. Look for a fastball in a zone you can cover, and take the first pitch when it is designed to pull you away from your strengths. Soriano is at his best when aggression remains unpredictable. The goal is to make the pitcher uncomfortable, not to turn every at-bat into a race against the clock.

Turn Singles Into Inning Pressure

His speed becomes most useful after he reaches base. You do not need to steal immediately to gain value from it. A quick runner at first can force extra attention, alter the pitcher's timing, and create better looks for the hitter behind him. This is particularly effective against players who become rushed when a runner takes a large lead. Sometimes the best move is holding Soriano close to first, then using a delayed steal or a strong secondary lead once the count favors you.

If the catcher has a powerful arm or the pitcher owns a reliable slide step, avoid treating stolen bases as mandatory. Soriano can still improve the inning by taking an extra base on a clean single or forcing a hurried throw from the outfield. His speed also makes double plays less comfortable for the defense, which gives ground-ball contact a little more value than it would with a slower runner.

Keep Him at Second Base When the Roster Needs Stability

Soriano's outfield flexibility is useful, but second base is often the cleanest home for him. Keeping him in the middle infield lets you preserve a stronger defensive alignment in the outfield while adding a premium offensive threat to a position that can be difficult to fill. That matters in ranked play, where every lineup spot has to contribute and moving several players around can create avoidable fielding issues.

Use an outfield spot instead when your roster already has a dependable second baseman and needs another dangerous bat in the grass. His versatility should respond to the weaknesses of your current squad rather than dictate a fixed setup. Check defensive reactions, arm strength, and the handedness balance of the full lineup before locking him into a position.

Build the Surrounding Lineup for Better At-Bats

A high-contact hitter ahead of Soriano can create runners to drive in, while a patient power bat behind him discourages easy pitching around the zone. If the rest of the order lacks speed, place Soriano first or second and let his baserunning shape the inning. If the lineup already has several quick runners, batting him third can turn his power into the main attraction without wasting his ability to take an extra base.

Where He Fits Best

Soriano is most effective for players who enjoy active at-bats, controlled aggression, and flexible roster construction. He is less appealing if your strategy depends on a specialist with elite defense at second or a pure contact hitter who rarely chases. Before spending valuable MLB 26 stubs for sale, test how his swing timing and defensive movement fit your style, then build the lineup around the role he performs best in your hands.
